Status update. Mark Zuckerberg reflected on Donald Trump’s win with a post to Facebook on Wednesday, November 9, alongside an adorable photo of himself with daughter Max.
“Last night was Max’s first election,” the 32-year-old Facebook founder and CEO began. “She’s got a lot of election nights ahead of her. Holding Max, I thought about all the work ahead of us to create the world we want for our children. This work is bigger than any presidency and progress does not move in a straight line.”
Zuckerberg added that important advancements that will hopefully happen in his daughter’s lifetime, including “curing all disease, improving education, connecting everyone and promoting equal opportunity,” will require a lot of rallying together to get work done.
“We are all blessed to have the ability to make the world better, and we have the responsibility to do it,” Zuckerberg continued. “Let’s go work even harder.”
In the cute image, the first-time father has his arms around Max as the pair watch a big TV screen in the background that appears to be showing the election results.
Comments on the tech mogul’s post were largely complimentary, with Facebook users thanking Zuckerberg for creating a platform for the world to express its thoughts and views together.
“Mark Zuckerberg, thank you for giving us a forum to help each other,” one user wrote. “I have seen so much strength among my friends this day. As a developer I look at your example in many ways. You have always tried to improve your community. Something I’ve always tried to accomplish as well. All the love to your family.”
Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla, welcomed Max to the world last November 30. Since then, Zuckerberg has sweetly documented some of his daughter’s firsts, including her first diaper change in December and her first swim in January.
“Your mother and I don’t yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future,” the couple wrote in an open letter to their daughter on December 1. “Your new life is full of promise and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully.”
