Martha Stewart is a member of the Kardashian squad! The lifestyle guru spoke to Us Weekly on the red carpet of the TIME 100 Gala in NYC on Tuesday, April 21, and pointed out that she and Kim Kardashian are similar in some ways.
Stewart, 73, confirmed to Us that she had first met Kardashian at the White House Correspondents' Dinner back in 2012. (At the time, Us exclusively revealed the news that it was the stars' first encounter.)
"She really has come a long way!" the Martha Stewart Living founder told Us on Tuesday.
In fact, Stewart was even asked to pen a note about the reality star for TIME's latest issue, which included both Kardashian and her husband Kanye West in its annual list of influencers. In her essay for the mag, Stewart lauded the reality star as "beautiful in an exotic, totally exaggerated way, Kim exudes energy, sexuality, drama, determination, impetuousness and happiness. But she and her famous, entrepreneurial siblings—shepherded by a savvy, tireless matriarch—have also expanded the very definition of family."
According to the Emmy-winning TV host, it was no surprise that Kardashian, 34, approached her for the essay. "I think it's the same reason Justin Bieber asked me to roast him," Stewart told Us. "Kim felt safe with me."
The businesswoman also elaborated on Kardashian's admirable attributes. "I think, what she's done, is part of [who she is] and her persona," Stewart explained. "Because of that, you can't take anything away from her. Kim has done so much and brought her family along! I think Kim is amazing."
As for whether Kardashian shares any similarities to Stewart herself? "You know, look at all of her lifestyle products," the entrepreneur told Us. "She's made a career — as a lot of celebrities have — of breaking into the lifestyle business. She's got that part of me up her sleeve!"
