Toodles, Trump! Megyn Kelly announced this week that she's taking time off for some R&R. The news comes just days after GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump appeared to make a comment about her menstruation cycle.

"Well, it's been an interesting week. And a long six months without a vacation for yours truly," Kelly, 44, said during her show The Kelly File on Wednesday, Aug. 12. "Do you know that? It's been six months since I had a vacation. I know, just ask my assistant," she told her TV crew.

The host, who will return to her post on Aug. 24, added: "So I'll be taking the next week-and-a-half off, spending some time with my husband and my kids trying to relax. The big challenge is always trying to put down the electronica…I'm going to try! I'm going to look at my little ones' faces and go for bike rides and play at the beach."

Kelly's "interesting week" began at the GOP debate in Cleveland on Aug. 6, when she grilled Trump about his disparaging remarks about women. Days after their face-off, the real estate mogul took a jab at Kelly in an interview with CNN.

"She is a lightweight. I couldn't care less about her," Trump, 69, told Don Lemon on Aug. 7. "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever." The former Celebrity Apprentice host later tried to clarify his comments, tweeting that he meant she could be bleeding from her "nose."

By that time, though, the damage had already been done. Trump was disinvited from a RedState Gathering for Republican presidential hopefuls in Atlanta, and lost one of his main advisers when Roger Stone stepped down as Trump's campaign strategist. "Sorry @realDonaldTrump didn't fire me- I fired Trump. Disagree with diversion to food fight with @megynkelly away core issue messages," Stone tweeted on Aug. 8. "Very anxious to see the direction of the Trump campaign from here and the next round of credible polls. #StandBy."

Others on social media also took aim at the White House hopeful. Trump received several tweets from women joking about their periods with the hashtag: "#periodsarenotaninsult."

"@realDonaldTrump – on the third day of my period AND still functioning member of society! Who knew?!" one commenter wrote. A second added: "Dear @realDonaldTrump Should I buy the panty-liners with wings, or without?"

A Fox News rep confirms to Us Weekly that Kelly's getaway was a pre-planned vacation.
