Only the best for Iron Man's wife! Robert Downey Jr. went all out to celebrate wife Susan Downey's 40th birthday by throwing her a star-studded weekend-long party at Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito, Calif. near the San Francisco Bay Area.
An insider tells Us Weekly that the 48-year-old actor hosted Justin Theroux, Jason Bateman, Joel Silver, Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Jon Favreau, Maya Rudolph, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale and their families for a fun-filled getaway. (His wife of eight years and mother of their son Exton, 21 months, turned 40 on Wednesday, Nov. 6.)
On Saturday, Nov. 9, Downey Jr. held a birthday party in the hotel's ballroom. A source tells Us that the evening included dinner, dancing, games and a photo booth. The Iron Man 3 star also decorated the space with photos of his wife, purple lights and white roses. The insider tells Us that both Witherspoon and Paltrow brought their children to the celebration. At the end of the night, fireworks were set off over the bay.
The next morning, brunch was held outside with food trucks from Hapa SF and Bacon Bacon. According to the source, the menu included pancakes, breakfast tacos, omelets, burgers and breakfast sandwiches. Downey Jr. enjoyed breakfast with son Exton and Iron Man 3 costar Paltrow and her kids.
Throughout the meal, the insider tells Us a videographer was shooting guests giving tribute to Susan. "Gwyneth Paltrow talked on camera and was laughing and animated as she recorded her message," the source says.
Before the group said goodbye and headed to the airport, everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Susan. Keeping with the food truck brunch theme, the birthday girl was treated to a special cake made out of maple bacon, chocolate bacon, bacon bits, bacon jam and vanilla cake.
