Influencer Sara Gilson’s estranged husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, reportedly told police officers that his firearm had been stolen two years before the pair’s apparent-murder suicide.
Duffey, who was 48 at the time of his death, called the Owasso Police Department in Oklahoma in March 2024 to report that his semi-automatic handgun, a Glock 9mm, was stolen from his vehicle, according to police records exclusively obtained by Us. He alleged that an unidentified suspect broke into his car around 7:30 p.m. and took the firearm, which was valued at $800.
“Officer dispatched to theft report. Reporting party stated their vehicle had been broken into and items stolen,” the police report reads. “Report taken.”
Almost two years later, news broke on July 23 that Duffey shot and killed Gilson inside their shared home. She was 43. Tulsa’s local ABC affiliate reported that law enforcement officials on the scene interviewed a family member who was present at the time of the alleged incident. The unidentified relative claimed that Gilson and Duffey died by murder-suicide. An investigation is ongoing.
Gilson, who is survived by her two children from a previous relationship, claimed that she had separated from Duffey earlier this summer.
“Thank you for the army. Your thoughts, prayers and gift cards have meant more than you know,” she captioned a TikTok post last month. “While I’m grieving and trying to process the worst thing imaginable, I’m solely focused on my children and their well-being. Their safety and mental health is my only concern at this time.”
Gilson added at the time, “We are not OK and I’m not sure I’ll ever be the same, but God has been so faithful in this process and I feel his presence in everything I do.”
Weeks later, the fashion influencer publicly accused Duffey of pedophilia.
“Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon-to-be ex-husband, who I just found out is a pedophile,” Gilson wrote over a TikTok video uploaded July 11, in which she sat in a chair and pretending to clip a microphone to her suit based on the viral social media trend.
Us previously confirmed that Duffey had been served a protective order petition in June after allegedly inappropriately touching a 15-year-old child at basketball practice. Duffey never publicly addressed the accusations prior to his death.
