Scarlett Johansson is saying goodbye to her beauty venture.

“After an incredible journey, The Outset has made the decision to wind down operations,” her brand wrote via its official website on Monday, September 28. “We’re so grateful to everyone who welcomed us into their routines and supported us along the way.”

The site confirmed that while online shopping has “now ended, all existing orders will continue to be processed as usual.”

Johansson, 41, first announced that she was launching a beauty brand in 2021, revealing it was a passion project she had long envisioned making a reality.

“I’ve been fascinated by the transformative power of beauty since I was a child,” she said at the time. “My mother instilled in me a passion for self care from my early teenage years. Several years ago, I took a step back from my beauty deals with the goal of creating something true to me.”

Cofounder entrepreneur Kate Foster added, “We are proud to have built a brand that fills a void in the market and addresses a true consumer need.” She continued, “Our brand platform is differentiated and has a great deal of runway for growth and expansion. This is truly just the beginning.”

The brand, which sold serums, lip balms, cleanser, moisturizer, masks and more, was sold in Sephora, Nordstrom and other beauty retailers.

In April 2025, Business of Fashion reported that Foster, 48, stepped down from the brand.

Loyal shoppers were quick to share their reactions to the brand closing via Instagram on Monday.

“Nooooo, please don’t be shutting down completely! This is the best skincare I’ve found for my sensitive skin,” one wrote, suggesting alternative ideas: “What about our recurring subscriptions? I haven’t even gotten an email telling us if they’re canceled completely now or what’s going on?”

A second shopper added, “I’m so upset that you guys are shutting down production. 😭 This was the best skincare brand for me. I wish there would have been more transparency in this process. I would have stocked up significantly more knowing that online ordering would be so abruptly shut down.”
