Selena Gomez is focusing on her health this year. The “Wolves” singer, who recently completed a treatment program for mental wellness, opened up about her ongoing battle with depression and anxiety in a new interview.

“Anyone who knows me knows I will always start with my health and my well-being,” Gomez, 25, said in her March 2018 cover story for Harper’s Bazaar. “I’ve had a lot of issues with depression and anxiety, and I’ve been very vocal about it, but it’s not something I feel I’ll ever overcome. There won’t be a day when I’m like, ‘Here I am in a pretty dress — I won!’ I think it’s a battle I’m gonna have to face for the rest of my life, and I’m OK with that because I know that I’m choosing myself over anything else.”

The 13 Reasons Why executive producer explained that because she is putting her health first, she is taking her time with the follow-up to her 2015 album, Revival. “I want to make sure I’m healthy. If that’s good, everything else will fall into place,” she said. “My next album has been forever in the making. When people ask me why, I’m honest about it: It’s because I haven’t been ready. I mean, point-blank, I don’t feel confident enough in where my music is yet. If that takes 10 years, then it takes 10 years. I don’t care. Right now I just want to be super intentional with all of the things I’m doing.”

Gomez also opened up to the publication about drawing the line between her public and private life, particularly on Instagram, where she boasts a record-breaking 133 million followers. “I have a complex relationship with Instagram, to say the least,” she admitted. “It has given me a voice amid all the noise of people trying to narrate my life for me. … The only thing that worries me is how much value people our age place on social media. It’s an incredible platform, but in a lot of ways it’s given young people, myself included, a false representation of what’s important.”

A source exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month that the “Bad Liar” singer, who received a kidney transplant from her best friend Francia Raisa last summer, voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility in New York City for a two-week program in January. “She always wants to be proactive,” the insider said. “She’s had a lot going on the last few months and she wanted to clear her mind and thought this was the way to do it. She loved it. She will be back at some point during the year.”
