On the Monday, May 18 episode of Teen Mom OG, Tyler Baltierra went where no man should ever dare go — he brought up his fiancee’s weight. Catelynn Lowell, who at the time had lost 20 of the 60 pounds she gained during her pregnancy, was trying to get back on the right track in time for their August wedding.
Determined to help his girl out, Tyler constantly brought up his longtime love’s diet and exercise plans.
“Before Nova, Cate would never finish a plate,” Ty said at a family dinner. It all bubbled up when Catelynn revealed she’d joined Weight Watchers and immediately after Tyler asked her about the gym.
“You’re horrible! When you say things that makes me not want to do it even more,” a frustrated Catelynn declared.
“Should I just let it happen and not say anything?” a confused Tyler replied. “If there’s ways I can support you, I’ll do it. I just need to know how to do it.”
The parents were able to work it out in the end, but Tyler still received plenty of backlash from viewers online while the episode was airing.

“My intention is to never hurt @CatelynnLowell I love her dearly & am just trying to support her through a sensitive subject #TeenMomOG,” he wrote, adding, “It’s hard for a guy to talk to his girl about weight. It’s sensitive & I sincerely do my best to try & honor that.”
He also noted that what was shown on the camera wasn’t exactly how the conversation went down.
“Remember your watching a half hour convo cut down to 3 minutes. Cate desired to lose. I was just trying to support,” he explained to one offended fan.
But Tyler also remained humble, admitting some of his downfalls.
“I SUCK at saying the right things,” he said. “I can be too blunt sometimes #TeenMomOG I’m just trying to support her by being honest. I just get too blunt sometimes! I’m not that great of a catch. As you can see I can be too harsh with my words lol but I try #TeenMomOG.”
Catelynn stayed pretty quiet on social media about her weight loss struggles, but when costar Amber Portwood tweeted her, “My goodness babe I know how hard it is to lose weight…sucks @CatelynnLowell,” she replied, “@AmberLPortwood right?! Ughhh lol love you!”
