Sadie Robertson and her husband, Christian Huff, opted to remain abstinent before they got married.

“We, kind of, went a different route … if you’re talking about physical boundaries,” Robertson, 29, said on the latest episode of her “Whoa That’s Good” podcast. “We didn’t say, like, ‘We’re not going to do this, this and this and we are going to do this, this, and this.’ I do feel, like, when you have a boundary, you typically just go to the boundary line, and then you just cross it and then you feel bad, and it’s all this stuff.”

Robertson and Huff, 28, decided to set certain boundaries to demonstrate their devotion and “relationship with God.”

“We’re pursuing God, and we’re pursuing God’s plan for our life and for our relationship, and God’s plan is purity,” she preached. “God’s plan is one-man [and] one-woman for marriage. I will say that wasn’t what our past looked like, but we had an opportunity when we came together … and we both wanted God’s plan. We wanted to pursue that, and so together we made a decision, ‘Hey, we’re going to do that, and that looks like purity.’”

Robertson and Huff have been married since 2019, going on to welcome daughters Honey, 5, Haven, 3, and Kit, 11 months.

During their early days of relationship, Huff and the Duck Dynasty star openly discussed which boundaries they wanted to follow.

“That was that boundary in the sense of like, you know, conversations of, ‘Before I pursue you, I’m going to pursue God.’ And then out of that relationship that’s going to cause me to love you the best that I can,” Huff recalled on his wife’s podcast. “That’s going to make me be more patient with you and more loving and gracious, and if I get those two mixed up, then I’ll start putting you on this pedestal that you can’t live up to. So, I think that was the boundary that we really talked about a lot.”

Later during the podcast recording, Robertson acknowledged that couples holding off from premarital sex has recently become a “controversial” topic.

“I think a lot of people are wrapped up in … [the] shame of, ‘Oh, well I’ve already lost my purity,’” she said. “I just want to go ahead and state from the beginning, I believe that’s a lie. I think that some of us think, ‘Oh, we’ve lost our purity because maybe we’re not a virgin anymore, maybe you’ve already had sex with other people, but I believe, under the blood of Christ, all can become pure again and God can restore that original idea and concept for sex in your life, whether you’ve had sex before or not.”
