Liam Hemsworth's Dating History: A Complete Timeline of His Famous Exes and Flings

Having fun down under! Liam Hemsworth’s love life has been full of A-list romances, including a his whirlwind marriage to Miley Cyrus in 2018. Before gaining fame for his role as Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games franchise, Hemsworth turned heads for his and Cyrus’ relationship. The pair met while filming 2010’s The Last Song and got engaged two years later. The twosome experienced many ups and downs over the years, including a 2013 split before tying the knot in December 2018. The duo’s nuptials came just one month after they lost their Malibu home to a wildfire. Despite dating on and off for nearly a decade, their relationship fizzled out by August 2019 and Hemsworth filed for divorce. The Hannah Montana alum later opened up about their decision to get married after such a devastating life event, hinting that she was grasping for stability in the wake of the fire. “We were together since [I was] 16. Our house burned down. We had been, like, engaged — I don’t know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married — but when we lost our house in Malibu, which if you listen to my voice pre and post-fire, they’re very different, so that trauma really affected my voice,” the “Bad Karma” singer told Howard Stern in December 2020. “Me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it and not wanting to go, you know, ‘What could be purposeful about this?’ I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him.” [jwplayer OL1A4k6i-zhNYySv2] The “Climb” songstress further explained to Rolling Stone that same month that Hemsworth made her feel safe after experiencing so much loss. “As you drown, you reach for that lifesaver and you want to save yourself,” Cyrus told the outlet in her January 2021 cover story. “I think that’s really what, ultimately, getting married was for me. One last attempt to save myself.” Hemsworth, for his part, told Men’s Health in April 2020 that he had learned to block out all the noise surrounding his personal life following his divorce. (At the time, he was dating model Gabriella Brooks.) “For a long period of time, it was very stressful, and it really got to me. … These days I don’t want to invest any more time in worrying about that sort of stuff,” the Most Dangerous Game alum said. “I remind myself of what to appreciate now and to enjoy every moment as much as possible, whether that be working or with my family or whatever I’m doing. Amanda Bynes

Several years after the She's the Man star was seen getting cozy with the Australia native at a Los Angeles nightclub, she admitted her crush. Bynes tweeted in June 2013, "Liam Helmsworth [sic] is the most gorgeous man on the face of the earth other than [actor] Tanz Watson. FYi!"

Miley Cyrus

Cyrus and Hemsworth met on the set of 2010's The Last Song and started dating shortly after. They were in an on-again, off-again relationship for several years before the Hunger Games actor popped the question in June 2012, after which the Hannah Montana alum said she felt like “all my dreams are coming true.” 

However, the couple called off their engagement in September 2013 before reconnecting two years later. They eventually got married in an intimate Nashville ceremony in December 2018. Eight months later, Hemsworth filed for divorce. The terms were finalized in February 2020.

January Jones

Around the time that his engagement was called off, Hemsworth started pursuing the Mad Men actress. A source told Us Weekly in September 2013 that the Independence Day: Resurgence star was "all over" Jones at a Hollywood house party in the summer of 2013, while he and Cyrus were having problems in their relationship. The insider added at the time, "January consoled him."

Eiza Gonzalez

One day after Cyrus and Hemsworth's split was confirmed, the Isn't It Romantic star was photographed kissing the Baby Driver actress in Los Angeles. The Aussie actor wrapped his arms around Gonzalez as they passionately kissed in a parking garage after a day of running errands. Prior to the makeout session, a source told Us that Hemsworth was ready to start over without the Disney Channel alum. The insider explained, "[Liam] is over [Miley] and wants to make a clean break. No more back and forth."

Nina Dobrev

Dobrev and Hemsworth were both living in Atlanta as they filmed The Vampire Diaries and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, respectively, when they allegedly met up and got quite friendly. An eyewitness reportedly saw them hanging out in a bar in February 2014 and were acting like a couple. "They stayed around two to three hours and Nina left before Liam, and as she was leaving they gave each other a good night kiss," Celebuzz reported at the time. "The kisses were on the lips publicly outside of the bar … and it was three sensual kisses on the lips."

Maika Monroe

Hemsworth found love with this Greta actress after they met on the set of Independence Day: Resurgence. A source told Us in September 2015 that the Dressmaker actor was "all over [Monroe]" at a director Roland Emmerich's July 4 party, adding, "His hand was on her butt as she was grinding into him and they were making out at the bar." A second source revealed that the pair were "not official ... but their chemistry is ridiculous!"

Maddison Brown

Hemsworth was spotted holding hands with the Dynasty star in October 2019 — two months after filing for divorce from Cyrus after nearly eight months of marriage. The Independence Day: Resurgence actor and Brown took a stroll through NYC’s West Village neighborhood before dining at Italian restaurant Sant Ambroeus. A source previously told Us that the Aussie actor was “open to meeting people” following his split from Cyrus.

Gabriella Brooks

The Killerman star sparked romance speculation with Brooks in December 2019 after the pair were spotted out with his parents in Australia. The twosome kept their relationship as under wraps as possible, but fans did get a peek inside their life as a couple via Hemsworth’s family’s social media accounts over the years.

The duo spent the holidays together in December 2021, but as of February 2022, they appeared to be spending time apart. Us confirmed in August 2022 that the actor and model split after more than two years of dating.
