Coming together for country. Exes Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert both appear in the music video for the star-studded song “Forever Country” to honor the 50th anniversary of the CMA Awards. Take a look in the video above!
The track features 30 top country music artists, including Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Kacey Musgraves and Dolly Parton. They sing a mashup of three classics: John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” and Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.”
Although Shelton, 40, and Lambert, 32, may not have even crossed paths while filming the video (which was directed by Taylor Swift’s go-to Joseph Kahn), they appear near each other at the end of the song, when all 30 artists are standing together in a field. They also each have solo parts where the “Gunpowder & Lead” singer walks on the front porch of a big white house, and the Voice coach strolls along a path while the landscape around him changes.
The former spouses have collaborated many times in the past, but this is the first time they’ve appeared together on a track since their split in July 2015, after four years of marriage. The “Honey Bee” singer has since moved on with his former Voice costar Gwen Stefani, while Lambert is dating musician Anderson East.
The Country Music Association Awards air on ABC Wednesday, November 2 at 8 p.m. ET.
