Move aside, Hannah Horvath! Girls’ Adam Driver has a new leading lady — Nashville star Connie Britton. The Friday Night Lights alum is playing Driver’s therapist-turned-girlfriend Tracy Sullivan in the highly-anticipated family drama This Is Where I Leave You.
Britton, 47, spoke to Us Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, Sept. 7, about her role in the film and playing opposite Driver, 30.
“There is something about Adam’s character. He’s a young, sexy bad boy and there is something that’s appealing to a character like her,” Britton mused. “And the age difference really isn’t that big!”
Though she admitted her character would likely be labeled a “cougar,” Britton has no problem with dating a younger man.
“I don’t have a policy about that. In relationships, I’ve learned that [age] doesn’t matter,” she revealed. “I’ve dated older guys and I’ve dated younger guys. I’ve learned that in a relationship with all of its issues, age really doesn’t play a factor. There’s so much more there.”
Despite having been in show business since the mid-‘90s, the Golden Globe nominee confessed to being slightly overwhelmed by relative newcomer Driver.
“I didn’t know him until we started doing the movie. I was a huge fan of his from Girls,” she told Us. “I was really excited to get to work with him and a little intimidated. But he’s such a generous guy and a really good actor. He was fun and easy and thoughtful and all those dreamy things.”
The HBO star wasn’t the only actor Britton got along with in the star-studded cast, which includes Jane Fonda, Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Dax Shepard, Rose Byrne, and Kathryn Hahn.
“What surprised me about everyone is that there wasn’t a pretentious person in the crowd,” Britton said of her costars. “Everyone was so thrilled to be there and so excited about what we were doing there. Everybody was fans of each other. We were all taking each other in.”
