It was a lovefest between Anne Hathaway and Whoopi Goldberg on The View on Monday, July 20.
The pregnant actress stopped by the ABC daytime talk show with her Odyssey costar Matt Damon and director Christopher Nolan and was overcome with emotion when cohost Goldberg heaped praise on her.
Goldberg, 70, gushed over her guests at the end of Monday’s interview, first complimenting Nolan, 55, and then turning her attention to Hathaway, 43. But before Goldberg could even get out a word, the Devil Wears Prada 2 star appeared to tear up and put her hands to her face.
“Anne Hathaway … it’s been wonderful watching you grow up,” Goldberg told her fellow Oscar winner. “And you have just blossomed and turned into this fabulous actress.” (Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for Les Misérables in 2013, the same award Goldberg received for Ghost in 1990.)
“Oh, don’t!” a teary-eyed Hathaway protested.
But Goldberg insisted, “Yes, you need to know.”
Hathaway then quipped, “I would be crying if I wasn’t pregnant right now, but it’s double.”
“I don’t know what to say. Thank you. You know how I feel about you,” the actress told Goldberg.
Hathaway is pregnant with her third child with husband Adam Shulman. The couple, who wed in 2012, are already parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.
The actress recently opened up about trying to conceive in her 40s, telling Access Hollywood, “There’s always hope until there’s not, but when you get to a certain age, that hope looks like it’s 1 percent to 2 percent. We just decided to see where life took us with a very, very healthy, realistic expectation, which was very low.”
“We’re overjoyed because we just know from personal experience that not everybody gets this, and certainly not when you want it — sometimes not ever,” she added. “It’s a blessing that we do not take for granted.”
Hathaway also spoke about parenting two boys.
“The thing about boys is they don’t make any sense until you get the stamina up, then once you get your stamina up, they’re a breeze,” she joked to Access Hollywood. “The thing about boys to remember is that they have feelings, and so to make sure to make space for their feelings to help them learn how to name them. I think sometimes we think about that more in the realm of girls, but it’s just as important to give that emotional foundation to boys.”
