Well, that was awkward. Seth Meyers tried hard to be cool enough to be Miley Cyrus’ new BFF in a funny sketch on Late Night on Thursday, September 22.
Explaining that NBC likes its stars to make nice with each other, Meyers showed what happened when he tried to hit it off with the new Voice coach in a segment titled “Forced Friendship.”
“They ordered me, a 42-year-old man with a wife and a son, to become friends with Miley Cyrus, a 23-year-old pop star,” he explained. “And some may say I maybe tried too hard.”
The Saturday Night Live alum kicked things off by revealing a new nose piercing as he knocked on the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s dressing room door to take her on a tour of Rockefeller Center.
“Hey, what’s up, playa? Are you ready to get lit?” he asked Cyrus as he did the dab.
“Is that a septum piercing?” she replied. “Is it real or fake?”
“Well, do you think it’s cool?” he said.
She shook her head.
“It’s fake,” he insisted as he tried to remove it.
Cut to the pair of them in Studio 8G, as Meyers had bloody tissue paper stuffed up his nose.
“If you think this is lame and you’d rather do graffiti on subway cars, we could totally do that,” the talk show host told Cyrus.
“No, thanks. This is great,” she responded.
“Cool, cool, fine. That’s totally chill. That’s totes adorbs. Chill AF. Do you know what AF stands for?”
“Yeah,” she replied, before he tried to impress her by telling her he once had sex on his desk.
After she grimaced, he continued, “What if I told you it was a three-way?”
“I wouldn’t believe you,” she shot back.

Late Night With Seth Meyers airs on NBC weeknights at 12:35 a.m. ET.
