Ian Ziering in "Sharknado"

Sharknado is heading towards the Big Apple! On Wednesday, July 17, the Syfy network confirmed that Sharknado 2 will premiere in 2014.

"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm — on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel," Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Syfy, said in statement to Us Weekly. "What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."

Sharkado, starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering, debuted on Syfy on July 11. The over-the-top TV movie, about a tornado that hits L.A. and causes sharks to fall from the sky, received instant attention on Twitter, but didn't get very high ratings. According to Nielsens ratings, Sharknado caught 1.4 million viewers during its premiere.

Reid, 37, recently told TMZ that she'd be willing to return for a sequel. "Why not?" the American Pie actress said said. "I'm just so glad that people saw the humor in it that I did . . . because it's hilarious. This movie was so ridiculous, you know? Like it's almost so bad that it's good."
