Something like a Sister Wives saga. While the Brown family released a statement saying that Kody Brown's divorce from Meri was a joint decision, TLC shared an interesting tidbit on Tuesday, Feb. 17, revealing that she was the one who made the choice to legally split from him.
With the reality series picked up for another season, the network teased a two-hour season 5 finale that includes a tell-all moderated by Today show co-host Tamron Hall. "In the season finale, additional details emerge that add clarity to Meri’s decision to divorce Kody," states the release to Us Weekly, "and the family’s decision to take the additional step of Robyn marrying Kody."
The Wrap shared an exclusive preview of the upcoming finale, and it appears that the decision was rather dramatic. "I am divorcing Kody," Meri says as she's seen crying in footage.
As was revealed in early February, Kody secretly divorced his first wife Meri, 44, last fall in a joint petition, and legally married his youngest spouse Robyn, 36, several months later. (The polygamist patriarch is spiritually entwined in unions with his four wives, also including Janelle, 45, and Christine, 42.)
After the shocking news was revealed, the Brown family addressed the situation in a statement to Us Weekly. "We have chosen to legally restructure our family," the Browns noted. "We made this decision together as a family. We are grateful to our family, friends and fans for all their love and support."
TMZ reported that the choice was made so that Kody could become the legal guardian of Robyn's three kids from a previous relationship.
According to TLC, "no subject is off limits" in Sunday's tell-all, with the unconventional family sharing "exclusive details about what really happened this season."
The season finale of Sister Wives will air Sunday, Mar. 1, on TLC at 8 p.m. ET, with the tell-all being shown immediately after at 9 p.m. Watch the shocking preview above.
