The TV vet, 56, opened up about the Voice mentors while attending the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards at L.A.’s Microsoft Theater on Sunday, September 18. (The NBC series won for Best Reality Competition Series during the star-studded show.)
“I am really really hoping to get invited to the wedding!” he told Us Weekly and other reporters in the press room. “One thing I think of on a very serious note is people go through peaks and valleys and light and dark times in their life. So you always have to hope their is light in their journeys. In the case of Blake and Gwen, both have had some dark times emotionally in their relationships.”
“They had no idea by coming to work on a fun music show they would find the loves of their life,” he continued. “And their life exploded and they are happier than you could imagine and we are all thrilled to be their friends and see their happiness.”
As previously reported, Shelton, 40, ended his four-year marriage to Miranda Lambert in July 2015. One month later, the No Doubt frontwoman, 46, announced she and Gavin Rossdale were splitting after 13 years of marriage. As Us exclusively revealed, the Bush rocker was cheating on Stefani with Mindy Mann, their children’s nanny.
Following their heartbreak, Shelton and Stefani leaned on each other when the “Used to Love You” singer joined The Voice. Stefani’s rep confirmed exclusively to Us last November that they were dating.
Wedding bells are in Shelton and Stefani’s very near future. “They want to get married before the end of the year,” a source exclusively told Us earlier this month. “They are both very, very happy. Blake is having the time of his life with Gwen and feels so comfortable around her.”
