The Walking Dead Spoils Shocking Character Death, Fans React: Spoiler Alert

The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead spoiled it its own finale.

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven't seen the midseason finale "Coda" of AMC's The Walking Dead, there are major spoilers ahead! You have been warned.

Big mistake! The powers that be behind The Walking Dead spoiled a huge plot twist on Sunday, Nov. 30.

The smash AMC horror-drama aired its midseason finale on Sunday evening, shocking viewers by killing off a major character. Just hours after the episode wrapped on the East Coast (and before it even hit airwaves on the West Coast), the show's official Facebook page broke the news in an unfiltered post.

Fans said goodbye to Beth Greene (played by Emily Kinney) in the riveting "Coda" episode before The Walking Dead goes on a two-month break.

The photo, which was later deleted and then re-posted, shows Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) carrying Beth's body in his arms. Lest fans hold onto any suspense about the character's fate, the show's Facebook page captioned the shot, "RIP Beth."

The spoiler incited a swift backlash from fans, who expressed anger at the early post. One viewer wrote, "This is the dumbest post I've ever seen from an official fb page. Spoiling a major plot point for millions of your fans? Someone should be fired over this," charting more than 6,000 likes on the page for her words.

Other viewers added on Twitter that the move was a "bummer" and made fans angry as there was no spoiler alert or way to avoid the post.

Kinney, 29, made her exit as Beth after a tense standoff at a hospital. She was shot in the head and killed by Officer Dawn Lerner (Christine Woods). The actress, a veteran of the series since 2011, broke down in a new interview with TVLine about her much-beloved character's death.

"I was very sad," she told the publication about Beth's death. "I think the writing throughout has been great, but I wasn't ready for it to be over… I did not see it coming at all."
