Below Deck‘s Kate Chastain revealed the surprising reason why she wouldn’t be able to work for Captain Jason Chambers.

“I would love to work for Captain Sandy [Yawn] because we get along really well. But I think Captain Jason is a great captain too,” Kate, 43, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting E!’s House of Villains.

The former chief stew pointed out that Jason is “just so attractive,” which presents a challenge.

“It would be a little distracting,” Kate admitted. “I don’t know if I could be around that face for that long. It’s just too hot. I need to focus on the job.”

Instead, Kate has been having fun watching Below Deck Down Under’s “great season” as a fan. “Captain Jason is so hot and Daisy is a great chief stew,” she told Us. “João ]Franco] is back. It’s kind of an all-star Below Deck season. I want to be a charter guest [on that season].”

Kate isn’t expecting to get an invite, though. “I know what corners that they would be cutting, so I would probably be an intimidating guest,” she joked. “I would be like, ‘Why haven’t we made this happen?’ Maybe next year.”

After joining Below Deck in season 2, Kate worked alongside Captain Lee Robach before exiting the series in 2020, Lee, 76, surprised fans when he confirmed his exit three years later.

Kate recently told Us she’s no longer close to Lee, who had been on Below Deck since it debuted. “We don’t work on boats anymore,” she noted. “I don’t live in Fort Lauderdale anymore. I don’t have time for anybody. I’m a mom.”

Despite the distance between her and Lee, Kate is on friendly terms with other Below Deck stars — including Captain Sandy.

“She’s so great. She’s so funny and I love her wife. They live in Florida, so sometimes when she’s driving south of Fort Lauderdale, she’ll be like, ‘Hey, Kate, I’m passing by your town. You want to meet for dinner?'” Kate shared. “She’s just really lovely.”

Kate has also expanded her reality TV world beyond Below Deck. After appearing on seasons 1 and 2 of The Traitors, Kate joined season 3 of House of Villains, which premiered last month.

“It is so shocking to me that I loved House of Villains so much more than The Traitors, because it was so much more fun,” she shared with Us. “But I think if people in the Bravo world [and] want to do Traitors and House of Villains, Traitors is the one to do first.”

House of Villains is streaming now on Peacock, with new episodes released every Thursday.
