It's all happening! Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig really did shoot a Lifetime movie, and it is actually going to air on the women's network! Lifetime has released a trailer for the film, called A Deadly Adoption, scheduled to premiere at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 20.
According to Lifetime, the movie is inspired by a true story and follows a successful couple (Ferrell and Wiig) who take in a pregnant woman (90210's Jessica Lowndes) in the hopes of adopting her baby.
The first look at the surprise collaboration features a distressed Lowndes speeding toward a bloodied Ferrell in her car, and a beaten-up Wiig pointing a gun while Lowndes says in a creepy voiceover, "We could have had everything. We could have had a happy life together. You're a selfish coward and a liar, just like the rest of them."
After news of the top-secret project leaked in April, Ferrell released a statement saying that he and Wiig had decided to scrap the film entirely. "We are deeply disappointed that our planned top secret project was made public," he said. "Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forego the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help us make this film."
A source told Us Weekly, however, that was never the case. "They never planned on scrapping, but wanted Will to be able to announce like he originally planned — which was the movie posters."
