Everything We Know About 'Dead to Me' Season 3: Filming, Premiere, More

Not dead for much longer. Filming has wrapped on the third and final season of Netflix's hit show Dead to Me, with new episodes slated to premiere in late 2022. "And… that’s a wrap on @deadtome Season 3!" creator and showrunner Liz Feldman wrote via Twitter in April 2022, along with a photo of a director's chair on the beach. "Filming is complete. Editing is underway. The final season is coming. And holy. F--king. S--t. Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini knocked it out of the park. Can’t to share it with you. ♥️" The dark comedy, which premiered in May 2019, centers on Jen (Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini), two grieving women who form a close bond in therapy. However, one of the women isn't exactly who she claims to be and as they grow closer, their secrets begin to unravel, and the bodies begin to pile up. "I always had the sense that I wanted this show to be a relatively short-running one," Feldman told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2020, one month after Netflix announced Dead to Me's renewal. "Halfway through shooting season two, an idea came to me that felt very true to the show — and I realized that it could be a really great way to end it. ... Sometimes I think I’m making a mistake, letting go of this incredible alchemy we have with Christina and Linda, but it just feels right to me that this is how we should close out the story." Thank you to all the fans. We will be getting back to work when it is safe to do so," Applegate wrote in July 2020. Production on season 3 was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the cast and crew were reportedly set to head back to set in May 2021, the season was delayed once more after the Married ... With Children alum revealed three months later that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. "Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS," Applegate wrote via Twitter in August 2021. "It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a—hole blocks it." She continued: “As one of my friends that has MS said ‘We wake up and take the indicated action.’ And that’s what I do. So now I ask for privacy. Filming Has Wrapped

Feldman confirmed that "filming is complete [and] editing is underway," in April 2022. Two months earlier, Diana Maria Riva, who plays Detective Perez, revealed on Twitter that she had filmed her final scene for the series. "And that, Ladies & Gentlemen, is a series final wrap for Det. Perez," she wrote in February 2022. "So grateful to have been a part of this… So excited for you all to see this story play out. Big love to my #DTM family!!!"

It Will Premiere This Year

While an exact premiere date has yet to be announced, Applegate did tell a fan that Dead to Me would return "soon" in January 2022.

It Was Always Intended to End at Season 3

In August 2020, Feldman explained that she always wanted Dead to Me "to be a relatively short-running" show and wanted to wrap things up on her terms. "Halfway through shooting season two, an idea came to me that felt very true to the show — and I realized that it could be a really great way to end it," she told THR at the time. "A lot of it is intuitional. I follow my gut with these things. Also, I was inspired by [Fleabag creator] Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She just decided that two seasons of her wonderful show was enough."

The Whole Cast is Coming Back

In addition to Applegate, Cardellini and Perez, fans can expect to see more of Jen's kids, Charlie and Henry, as both Sam McCarthy and Luke Roessler are slated to return. James Marsden will also come back. Based on the massive car accident he gets into in the finale, however, it's hard to tell how much of a role Ben will play in season 3.

Season 3 Will Deal With That Car Accident

In the final moments of season 2, Ben drunkenly crashes his car into another vehicle, which, unbeknownst to him, is being driven by Jen and Judy. Feldman teased that the new episodes will "launch from the end of season two and that cliffhanger" in August 2021, so fans likely won't have to wait long to learn if anyone survived the wreck — and what consequences are waiting for them if they do.

And That Major Discovery

The season 2 finale also featured Jen's son Charlie finding a letter that she wrote to Judy, in which she confesses to being involved in a murder. Fans won't know if he actually read the note until season 3, but if he did, that potentially puts the show's leading ladies in even more danger.

A Trailer Reveals Where ‘Dead to Me’ Season 2 Left Off

Netflix premiered teaser footage of Dead to Me’s final footage during its TUDUM presentation in September 2022. In the clip, Judy confesses to the cops that she alone killed her ex-fiancé Steve despite Jen’s involvement.

A Premiere Date for ‘Dead to Me’ Season 3 Is Set

New episodes of Dead to Me drop on Netflix on November 17, 2022.

The Official Trailer

Netflix released the official season 3 trailer in November 2022. The clip shows Judy and Jen dealing with the fallout of Steve's death as police discover his body. The two unlikely friends also realize that they need outlaw names and decide on "Judy Five Fingers" and "Bitch Cassidy."
