'Vampire Academy' Burning Questions After Season 1 Finale: Will Rose Reunite With Dimitri?

Warning: This story contains spoilers about the plot of Vampire Academy season 1. A full circle moment. After a deadly attack on St. Vladimir's Academy in season 1, Vampire Academy ended the finale with Rose (Sisi Stringer) and Lissa (Daniela Nieves)'s predictable departure from the dominion. During the shocking conclusion, which aired on Peacock in October 2022, Lissa's connection to the queen shortly before her death put the royal moroi in danger. As a result, Rose and Lissa had to run away under different circumstances than they originally planned. Before their departure, the guardian-in-training shared a sweet goodbye with Dimitri (Kieron Moore) that included a love confession following major ups and downs throughout the season. Ahead of the finale, Moore recalled being "really challenged" when bringing Dimitri's scenes with Rose to life. "Even though I understood the dynamic of the books and understood the relationship, and you’re rooting for Rose and Dimitri, I was like, 'This man that is so secluded, so enveloped in his work, why would he ever love a rule-breaker like that?'" he told Collider in October. "That was something I really spent a lot of time on." The actor continued: "For me, Rose embodies a freedom that Dimitri’s never been able to achieve or understand. There’s an element of envy, but in a respectful manner. They both help each other. He tries to ground her a little bit and make her understand the risks of what they’re doing and their position in society, whereas she’s saying that there’s more to life than this and he deserves more." Meanwhile, Stringer praised the fantasy series for offering a platform for important representation on screen. "That's one thing that sets us apart from the movie — we have such a diverse cast truly in an authentic, genuine way. It doesn't feel like tokenism or anything like that," she told The List one month prior. "It's amazing to be a part of something like that, and we get messages all the time [from] people being like, 'I haven't seen someone like you on my screen before. I have always wanted to see myself as the hero, and now I'm watching you do it. It makes me feel like I can.' That's always been super important to me and to Dani, so that's another thing to be proud of." Where Are Rose and Lissa Going to End Up?

At the end of season 1, Lissa's life was in danger because she was the queen's original pick for the throne. As a result, Lissa and Rose are forced to go into the human world to hide her from harm. In the 2014 Vampire Academy movie and the book, the twosome were discovered in Portland after running away from the school.

Will Rose and Dimitri Reunite?

Following a growing romance in season 1, Rose and Dimitri have to part ways as they separately protect Lissa. The couple shared an emotional moment where they declared their love for one another before Rose went on the run.

Since Rose and Dimitri originally met in the Richelle Mead-penned books when she came back to St. Vladimir's Academy, their reunion in a potential season 2 would come with different stakes.

Where Do Lissa and Christian Stand?

Before her departure, Lissa and Christian (André Dae Kim) vowed to reconnect in the future and have a proper wedding. For now, Christian will presumably focus on learning more about strigoi in an attempt to take down his mother. Lissa, for her part, ended up on the run after being accused of assassination and received a clue from Andre (Jason Diaz) about Tatiana (Anita-Joy Uwajeh).

Did Mason Survive His Injuries?

After getting injured during the battle, Mason (Andrew Liner) was carried to the infirmary by Meredith (Rhian Blundell) and his fellow guardians. It is later mentioned that he is in surgery — which means he will presumably recover.

How Did Meredith Know About the Tunnels?

During the episode, Meredith shocked the group when she revealed the existence of the tunnels. Although they helped get the remaining moroi to safety, Meredith's history with the tunnels is a mystery that remains unsolved. Viewers did get a hint that the location plays a larger role with alchemists.

What Happened to Andre?

According to flashback scenes, Andre survived the car crash and was held hostage by Tatiana. She used his knowledge to secure the throne but seemingly has no plans to remain the monarch. Andre, for his part, escaped captivity but was attacked by Christian's mother shortly after he reunited with Lissa.

The finale ended with Andre turning into a strigoi.

Who Died and Who Survived?

Based on their final scenes, Mason is on the mend after his accident. Meanwhile, Andre is in a worse state than before after being turned. The queen was another casualty after she was poisoned.

Where Does Victor's Story Go From Here?

During season 1, Victor's (J. August Richards) state of mind started to decline as he battled health issues and an interest in the crown. He originally was the next in line — but his decision to cover up Sonya's transformation put his position into question. Victor's relationship with his family also took a turn due to his lies about Sonya (Jonetta Kaiser).

In a potential sophomore season, Victor's intentions will worsen as he becomes the villain of the story.

How Did the Finale Differ From the Books?

Rose and Lissa left St. Vladimir's Academy before the beginning of the books. The show, however, shook up the story by having season 1 depict the events that led up to their departure. In the novels, Rose and Lissa return to the dominion after their lives are put in danger.
