Fried chicken and waffles is nothing new, but fried chicken served in a waffle cone is the latest artery-clogging trend taking the food world by storm! Leading the pack is a New York City restaurant called Chick’nCone, which is located in the Turnstyle Underground Market near Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.

The trendy dish is exactly as it sounds – pieces of fried chicken topped with sauces such as Kick’n Ranch, Yella BBQ or Buffalo Blue served inside a vanilla waffle cone, just like ice cream. Billed as a fork-free version of chicken and waffles, this decadent meal is already hugely popular in the Big Apple.

In fact, the treat has proven to be so well-liked that Chick’nCone co-owner Jonathan Almanzar tells Us Weekly his establishment will sometimes sell up to 875 cones in an eight-hour day, or four cones per minute.

For something even more extravagant, the NYC eatery also serves off-the-menu specials such as a Sriracha mac and cheese fried chicken waffle cone, which consists of fried chicken bites tossed with mac and cheese, and presented in a cone that’s swirled with spicy Sriracha sauce.

The idea for Chick’nCone, Almanzar says, came from a love of comfort food. “Comfort food is typically difficult to eat and not mainstream at all,” he explains. “We designed a food that has all the flavors and the portability to make it a easy to eat, grab and go, down home food.”

According to Almanzar, the secret to Chick’nCone’s success lies in the chicken itself, which is local, fresh, and breaded with a secret mix of buttermilk and Panko breading. “It’s crispy, juicy, and flavorful,” he tells Us.

Though fried chicken served in a waffle can be found on restaurant menus from Indianapolis to Los Angeles, Almanzar hopes to make the craze even more common. “We have sold over 20 franchises in the last three months and we will be opening our next location at The Exchange in Fort Collins, Colorado next week,” he says.
