The ‘Game of Thrones’ Cast Ate Something Called ‘Fully Loaded Toasties’ During Filming and They Sound Delicious

The Game of Thrones cast was certainly well-fed as they filmed the show’s final season! During a two-hour documentary titled The Last Watch, which gave viewers a look at everything that went into creating the series’ last six episodes, it was revealed that even though the drama was often filmed in remote locations, there was never a shortage of tasty eats for the cast and crew to enjoy.

One food item that kept the cast satiated is something called a “fully loaded toastie.” Per the doc, the scrumptious meal was created by Leigh McCrum, who managed a coffee truck on the set of the HBO hit. As McCrum told the cameras, this dish accidentally became her signature menu item after someone on set saw her making one for herself and then requested a toastie of his/her own.

Before long, word quickly spread that the toastie was worth ordering, and over time it became one of the cast and crew’s favorite dishes.

Not surprisingly, the fully loaded toastie lives up to its name. McCrum made one for The Last Watch cameras and explained that it’s essentially a panini-like sandwich packed with cheese, bacon, chicken, ham, tomato, onion and tobacco onions, which are basically crispy, thin onion rings. The whole thing is then served on tiger bread – a.k.a. bread that has a mottled crust.

According to Delish, McCrum mentioned she had tried to stock her truck with healthy items, but given that the cast and crew were typically shooting at night for more than three months, foods that were filling and comforting (like that delicious toastie) ultimately won out.

Though it certainly sounds like the fully loaded toastie was beloved by just about everyone who worked on GoT, the show’s final season was not without some controversial, food-related moments.

In the fourth episode of season 8, a Starbucks coffee cup was carelessly left in a scene with Daenerys. HBO apologized for the error and edited the beverage out of future broadcasts, but fans were peeved again just weeks later after a plastic bottle was spotted behind a chair in the series finale.
