Step aside, pine! KFC is looking to add fried chicken to the list of notable holiday scents, and they’re doing it in a pretty bold way. On Thursday, December 13, the fast-food chain launched a firelog that smells exactly like Sanders’ famous fried chicken, and the holiday accessory has the power to give your home a distinct fried-food odor as well.
The scented festive decoration, which is formally called the 11 Herbs and Spices Firelog, is inspired by the Colonel’s very own secret recipe and, according to a press release, intends to create a “delightful, hearth-warming and hunger-inducing experience.”
Dubbed “the perfect accessory for any winter gathering,” the limited-edition offering was created in partnership with Enviro-Log and can be purchased at kfcfirelogs.com for $18.99.
“At KFC, we have always been proud of our role in bringing loved ones together at the dinner table around a bucket of our world-famous fried chicken,” explained KFC U.S. chief marketing officer Andrea Zahumensky. “Now, this winter we’re bringing all the things we love – family, friends and fried chicken – together around the fire with our scented firelog.”
The firelog makes the smell of the Colonel’s original-recipe fried chicken unmistakable, and according to research reported in Psychology Today, smells trigger areas in the brain strongly linked to memory. In other words, pop this baby in your fireplace and prepare to be flooded with years of holiday memories.
While a fried chicken-scented log might seem strange, this is hardly the first time KFC has tried to inflict its trademark odor on the masses. In the past, the Kentucky-based company has released nail polish, bath bombs and sunscreen all engineered to smell like its staple menu item.
