In her new book, Tiny Hot Dogs: A Memoir in Small Bites, in stores everywhere Tuesday April 9, the caterer to the stars shares hilarious anecdotes of passing appetizers to the rich and famous. No matter who the Long Island native is serving, her guests all agree on one thing: “Number one hors d’oeuvre that people love and [makes them] instantly happy – tiny hot dogs.”

These are not just pigs in a blanket from the freezer aisle though. “The filo dough is brushed with mustard and we use all beef franks. We [also] brush them with butter,” the party planner told Us. “In the book, I have recipes for Italian hot dogs, I have recipes for spicy hot dogs. We also do veggie hot dogs where we pickle the carrots, and roll them in the filo dough and if you close your eyes, you actually think you’re eating meat. It’s delicious!”

Once you have the perfect appetizer, a perfect drink pairing is a must. Giuliani suggests wines like pinot noir, sauvignon blanc and a rosé. “The hot dogs are salty and fatty and buttery. You want something that’s kind of sweet to cut that, and kind of tart,” she explained. “In the pinot noir, there’s a little touch of cherry. Think about a hot dog with a cherry coke – so Americana. You get the sweetness of the sauvignon blanc and the rosé – these can be poured over ice and paired with the hot dogs.”

But the real star of the show will be Giuliani’s beer-garita! Watch the video above to see how it’s done and get the full recipe below.
