While we wish we could banish acne from our face and body forever, we have to be realistic. No matter how thorough our skincare routine, sometimes hormones or external factors are going to creep in and make pimples pop up in the worst spots at the worst time. Nothing like waking up the morning of a big event and finding a bright red zit on our nose! That’s what concealer is for. But then what do we do when our concealer inevitably wipes off within an hour?

If we’re looking to extend our concealer’s wear time and keep our skin looking smooth and even all day, we’re going to want to add the Marc Jacobs Beauty Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Eye Primer to our makeup routine. What does eyeshadow primer have to do with pimples? Everything! We have Duchess Meghan’s wedding day makeup artist, Daniel Martin, to thank for this tip, and it’s a life-changing one!

We can remember how flawless Duchess Meghan looked on her wedding day as clearly as we remember what we ate for breakfast two minutes ago. Her makeup artist has earned our trust for a lifetime when it comes to beauty. That’s why we took intense notes when Martin recently reposted an Instagram story featuring his own advice and this Marc Jacobs primer.

Martin recommends using an eyeshadow primer as the first step to concealing acne. After spot-treating it, he recommends dabbing a bit of primer on our pimple before following up with a creamy concealer. Some of us must be wondering, “Isn’t that what face primer is for?” Kind of. But face primer is typically not as thick as eyeshadow primer. Eye primer may help concealer to not only go on smoother, but stay on longer, for up to 12 hours of visibly smooth skin!

This eye primer is formulated with five forms of coconut extract, including cold-pressed water, juice and pulp. It also features silica spheres and bark extract, which may help to absorb the oil that would typically loosen up our concealer’s hold. The gel polymer with lilac stem cell also may help the concealer to stay put, all without any creasing or smudging!

Shoppers love this eyeshadow primer because it not only claims to set a base for intensified, stay-all-day eyeshadow, but also because of how it feels almost like a skincare product, especially with the coconut extract. It also claims to have a breathable feel, so even when we put it on our acne, it won’t feel like we’re suffocating it.

This Marc Jacobs primer has a lightweight texture and claims to glide on “effortlessly.” We can either use our fingers, which is great especially if we’re not home, or we can use a brush if we want to keep our fingers clean. It all depends what works best for us and our skin.

Martin’s concealing trick is one we’ll keep with us for the rest of our lives. It’s genius and almost seems obvious, and yet we’ve never considered trying it before! Things can only go up from here, and who knows? Maybe eventually we won’t need to worry about covering up acne at all!
