Everlane is a brand we trust. We trust it to produce pieces of only the highest quality, and we trust it to be transparent about its processes and pricing. We also can always rely on it to find all of the best ways to turn minimalism into a fashion statement. The brand prides itself on all of these aspects in their design and production, and its newest launch might be its best one ever in every sense.
The Everlane Square Toe Flat was created to be “an easier way to dress up.” It’s handcrafted in Santa Maria a Monte, Italy, so it’s only fitting that it’s made of 100% Italian leather. If we think the brand’s Day Glove Flat and Boss Flat are great (we do), we’re going to absolutely love this smooth, chic new shoe.

This flat was designed with “geometric angles” in mind, and the execution absolutely nailed it. The square toe is like that of a ballet slipper, but the stacked circular heel, which is half an inch high, is a unique touch with a subtle sense of futurism. The sleek leather has a clean and modern look to it that molds effortlessly around our foot for a simple yet somehow completely riveting effect.
When developing the Square Toe Flat, Everlane wanted a “graphic, modern feel” that still ultimately worked as a “timeless, everyday flat.” It’s a tough line to walk, and the brand could have easily gone too far in either direction, but it managed to walk the tightrope with enviable ease.
These flats fit true to size, but there is a size guide to help us out if we’re not entirely sure which size represents “true” for us. Everlane also kindly offers to answer emails containing questions about the fit of the shoe! Once we have the best-fitting shoe in our hands and on our feet, we can trust that the quality will carry us through for years, or maybe even decades, as these flats remain a staple in our style.
As usual, Everlane is extremely transparent about everything that went into the making of this new release. In a graph at the bottom of the product page, it shows how much each step of the shoe-making process costs. This adds up to the shoe’s “true cost.” Everlane then reveals its price versus what the traditional retail price would be elsewhere. The final Everlane price is less than half of the traditional retail price!
This flat is currently available in five colors, and we’re just going to go ahead and say it: we want all of them. How could we not? When such a versatile and pristinely polished shoe comes in five very different colors, we’re practically set for life. We may need snow boots at some point, but we’re going to be stubborn about it. Just a warning.
The first color is Olive. It’s a dark, earthy green that has a to-die-for quality, especially when paired with all black or all white. We’re also always down to pair dark green with all shades of blue or metallics like gold and silver. The sole on this, and every other color, is a traditional light brown, and the circular heel is black.
Next is Dusty Rose, a muted nude shade a la our everyday lipstick, with touches of brown undertones. This color will match with any bottom, top or accessory we put up against it, which is great, because we’re going to be wearing the flats almost every day of our lives, okay?
Scarlet is a vibrant and vivid red. Red doesn’t need to be reserved solely for the bottoms of Christian Louboutins. On the Square Toe Flat, we’re letting it take the center of attention. We love the look of red flats with blue denim. It’s one of the easiest ways to dress up a completely casual jeans-and-tee look!
If we don’t already own a black flat, the Black shade is a necessity. If we do, we bet this one is tempting us anyway. If we want to play with the timeless black flat look a little bit, we can try pairing these with thin socks. Embellished mesh socks are one of 2019’s hottest trends and for good reason!
The last shade is Light Taupe, another nude shade that ditches any glimpses of pink for a light brownish-beige. These flats in this color? The epitome of versatility. That’s all we really even need to say.
