When we say “leather jacket,” we bet that everyone pictures a black one in their head. Black is a classic and we certainly are big fans of classics. But we don’t always have to stick to the classics, and thanks to this widely-beloved jacket from Express, we don’t have to.
The (Minus The) Leather Double Peplum Jacket is taking the leather-jacket look to the next level — 12 levels, actually, to correspond with each color this jacket comes in! No longer do we have to worry about our black jackets not quite working with our outfits. The only thing we’ll be sacrificing our leather look for is hot weather, and even then, we might just sweat it out a bit.
This moto jacket is both edgy and pretty. The faux leather still brings out the inner rebel in us, but the double-layered peplum finishes the look off with a feminine flair of flare. The peplum feature is in the back so we’re impressing from every angle. They hate to watch us leave, but love to watch us walk away. Because of the peplum, duh!
Shoppers love the versatility of this jacket, saying how it even dresses up casual jeans. Others commented on how it looks high quality and feels like it, calling it “so comfy” they want to buy multiple colors just so they can wear it more often. One said it’s “not at all stiff” like other leather jackets, while another said they “cannot stop wearing it.” This jacket is an online exclusive, so we’re grateful that these shoppers have shared their insight with Us!
Apart from the faux leather, this jacket has stretch knit insets on the side seams and the sleeves, offering us flexibility and comfort. It also has zippers. Lots of zippers. As a true moto jacket should! There is a zip front, zippers on the cuffs of the long sleeves, and slant zip pockets for storing our belongings, or our hands. We love the zippers on the sleeves because if we want to layer, we can unzip them just a bit so our long-sleeve tops or sweaters won’t bunch up awkwardly and uncomfortably around our wrists.
This jacket has a sleek and skinny band collar, which has a snap closure we can use for warmth. If we don’t need any extra warmth, we can alternatively just let it hang to project a nonchalant coolness. Next to the collar are diagonal stitching accents on the shoulders, creating a ribbed texture. It’s like shoulder pads evolved and then evolved again. We like the natural shape of our shoulders, so we’re digging this final, and much more modern, form.
Let’s discuss colors, because we have a lot of them to talk about. First, we want to mention that this jacket does come in black! If we don’t already own a black faux-leather jacket, this is the one we need in our closet. Colors are fun, but black will never, ever go out of style, so we can’t recommend this one enough.
This jacket comes in two blues: Midnight Blue, a dark, oceanic color, and Blue Slate, which teeters on the edge of grey. Speaking of greys, there are two! Grey is a clay-like color while the Light Grey one is almost creamy. Which brings us into Beige, a true blend of cream and champagne, and Tan, a brown-sugar color with a hint of honey. Wow, these jackets sound delectable.
Cranberry is a darker red which screams rock ‘n’ roll. A total statement piece. The color is so rich, we want to melt into it. If we want something more muted, we can go for Wild Ginger, also a berry shade, but on the pink side! They’ve got Pink, too, if we feel like putting Barbie to shame. We can also choose Pale Pink if we only want to put her to shame a little. Sorry, Barb. You’re not the only It Girl on the block anymore.
Last but certainly not least is Yellow, a trendy mustard shade that pops and pops again. We would wear this for an attention-grabbing, bold look, pairing it with royal blue or pale green underneath. Maybe some colorful flats, too!
We’re so happy to finally have a leather-look jacket for spring. Instead of people side-eyeing us for dressing too dark and gloomy for the season, they’ll be full-on staring, wondering where we got our fabulous jacket. Psst. It’s Express!
