Capsule wardrobes are kind of all the rage these days. From thousands of videos teaching Us just how to whittle down your wardrobe to the bare necessities, to Marie Kondo‘s book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up explaining the need to just chuck everything that doesn’t bring us joy (yes, including that old turtleneck sweater we can’t bring ourselves to part with) it seems everyone has been embracing a more minimal outlook to their closet. The most important place to start, if you ask Us, is knowing which items you absolutely can’t give up. That part is different for everyone, of course. For example, we spend the entirety of winter in jeans and classic coats and turtlenecks, while some of our friends prefer dresses, tights, high heels and as much velvet as they can pack on at a time.
One of the major non-negotiable items for our winter capsule wardrobe is a truly great pair of ankle boots. They’re the ultimate wear-everywhere item that can work for any occasion, any dress code and just about any outfit. Whether our outfit veers closer toward edgy, preppy, feminine or anything in-between, a classic pair of booties is the perfect way to tie a look together. We need to talk about these adorable booties! The Tory Burch Brooke design features a chunky 2.5-inch block heel, which might vary slightly based on size. It’s the perfect heel for a stroll through the park, or for days that you know you’ll be on your feet. They still add a bit of height, if you prefer your footwear to add an extra couple inches to your stature. The shoes themselves are made from a beautiful supple leather and feature a small Tory Burch logo on the corner of the heel, just to add an extra bit of sparkle everywhere you go. It’s a glamorous bootie yet decidedly understated, making them that do-it-all style that we can pair with anything else we might have in our pared-down wardrobe.
Not sure what color might be the one? We got you! There are three different shades to choose from and each is designed to be a versatile addition for any closet! There’s a beautiful inky black pair — which we immediately gravitated toward — which even has a tad bit of sheen to give the Brooke a dressier feel. We also think the gold double-T logo at the heel looks the chicest when it’s against a dark backdrop.
If your perfect capsule wardrobe doesn’t need a pair of black ankle boots (or perhaps you already have a pair and want to switch it up) we also can’t get enough of the tan shade, either. It’s a perfect burnt caramel hue, perfect for pairing with medium wash jeans, sweaters and leather jackets. It’s also more of a casual alternative to the black pair.

Our favorite iteration of the Tory Burch Brooke boot, however, has to be the color block version in black and dark brown! It boasts a deep mahogany hue at the front of the shoe up until the ankle, which then alternates into a classic black. It’s a great way to liven up a pair of otherwise simple boots and the mixed colorway doesn’t detract from the versatility of the shoe at all. They can just as easily be dressed up or down and can certainly rack up some style miles for even the most discerning of fashionistas.
Need a little bit of help finding what to pair the boot with? Don’t worry! We can’t wait to wear the black pair with a cute black minidress and opaque black tights (both must-haves in any capsule wardrobe) to holiday parties. The look is totally appropriate for office shindigs, too! The black design can also work with leggings and an oversized sweater (also important for any lineup, no matter how condensed) and can look downright magical if worn with straight-leg leather pants and a lacy bodysuit for a night out on the town.
The brown pair will work for more casual outings: Think high-waisted jeans and mockneck sweaters for days spent running errands, or with a floral mididress and a great jacket for chasing after pets or kids. The color block pair can be worn with any of the above, as it’s a mix of both worlds.
