Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid assured fans that veteran tight end Travis Kelce is in game shape on the heels of his marriage to Taylor Swift.

“He came back in good shape,” Reid, 68, told NFL Network on Tuesday, August 4. “Everyone’s out there saying he’s got the dad body and all this stuff but he looks the same to me as he’s always looked. And just playing like crazy.”

Reid continued, “He’s doing a nice job with everything. He’s focused and ready to go, and I appreciate that. When you have someone who’s been here 14 years and wants to be out there every snap…he’s going to play and play hard and aggressive and not be stopped and that’s contagious.”

Kelce, 36, arrived at Chiefs camp for the first time as a married man on July 29, walking in as fans shouted their congratulations to him. He is entering what could be his final season after toying with retirement the last two years, and Reid indicated in June that the three-time Super Bowl champion is as determined as ever.

“Listen, he has been here most of the offseason if not the whole offseason. He’s been around. It is good to have him here,” he said during a June 12 press conference. “He did the mandatory camp and [did] a nice job there. It’s good to have him back in and rolling.”

Reid added that while Kelce and Swift’s wedding was only a month away at the time, his upcoming nuptials did not slow his training.

“You see no distractions with that and the wedding,” he said. “It’s like when I got married my wife did everything, so I just kinda followed her lead on it.”

Reid was at Madison Square Garden for the July 3 wedding, which more than 1,000 guests attended. Details from the ceremony remain scant, but sportscaster Charissa Thompson provided some insight on a recent episode of her “Calm Down” podcast.

“Congrats to both of them. It was magical,” Thompson, 44, said. “I will just leave it at this. It was magical. … Maybe there’s some subliminal part of seeing them get married that makes me want to have a version adjacent to marriage and the commitment ceremony.”

She continued, “Watching them get married, I’m like, ‘When you find your person, everything else in the world is right. And that to me, that night and that weekend really was a reminder that you can have everything in the world, and if you don’t have the person to share it with, then it’s not worth anything.”

The Chiefs will open the preseason on Saturday, August 15, at home against the Los Angeles Rams.
