Call it a mission impossible — or, at least, nearly impossible. For the second annual Best Dressed List in the latest issue of Us Weekly, we set out to scout every star in Hollywood and choose the very best and boldest tastemakers from a vast pool of worthy contenders.
We searched for true visionaries who exhibit a strong sense of personal style — both in couture gowns and casual street attire — and a unique command of 2016’s standout trends. To select the winners, Us recruited renowned designers, a legendary supermodel, a hairstylist and a makeup artist whose combined decades of experience lead the fashion and beauty industries.
These six elite judges — Naomi Campbell, Jessica Simpson, Jamie Chung, Charlotte Tilbury, Lauren Conrad and Frédéric Fekkai — diligently pored over hundreds of images of 27 deserving nominees.
“I always look for the unpredictable, the people who don’t limit themselves to certain trends,” Campbell, 46, tells Us Weekly. “I look for those who remain true to themselves.”
Chung, 33, also values “confidence,” while makeup artist Tilbury believes that great style begins with comfort. “Clothes should enhance your natural assets to create the best impression of you,” she said.
A perfect example of all of the above? Beyoncé. “I respect Beyonce’s style, from her looks on stage to dates with her husband to the red carpet to a caftan on vacation,” songstress and designer Simpson, 36, marvels. “Her daughter has a great fashion role model to look up to as she grows up.”
Zendaya’s also a star who has mastered the art of evolution. “I think Zendaya is absolutely fearless!” hairstylist Fekkai says. “Her outfits are always very fun and many times, risky. I love that she constantly looks totally different but consistently beautiful in each look. She is continually smiling and confident, making her style all the more enjoyable. Whether it’s on the street or in an evening gown, she works it.”
And another standout got praise for always keeping it simple: Kendall Jenner. “She’s very posh. There’s a chicness to all of her outfits,” Conrad, 30, notes. “She always looks very put together, but she doesn’t wear a lot of prints. I think she wears a lot of neutrals, and her looks just feel very clean.”
After careful consideration, our renowned judges ranked their favorite dressers, and we combined and tallied their selections for Us Weekly’s 2016 Best Dressed list. To see who made the list and which stylish star was crowned best dressed, pick up the new issue, on stands now.
