A tale of two sisters (in-law) and their signature style: as you may well have noticed, The Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex each have their own unique aesthetic. While Kate Middleton favors a timeless and feminine look (dare we say, even preppy at times), her sister-in-law Meghan Markle leans toward a more contemporary and sleek sophistication with her outfits. And this couldn’t be better exemplified by how they wear certain sartorial staples, most recently the blazer.
Duchess Kate stepped on on Tuesday, October 20, wearing a classic gray houndstooth blazer with velvet details, tailored to perfection (skimming her figure to be perfectly fitted and fuss free) from iconic Canadian label Smythe. She paired the preppy classic with an all black outfit that was comprised of a black turtleneck, black stovepipe jeans and a pair of black Aquatalia boots. Middleton’s blazer was indeed the statement piece of her entire outfit, as it brought visual interest and femininity to an otherwise very lowkey outfit. Her classic topper wasn’t just part of the look, it was the look.
Just a week earlier, Duchess Meghan appeared in Dubbo on October 16 with Prince Harry during their 2018 Australia tour, and she, too, donned a blazer but in a completely different way. Markle’s choice was the “Boss” blazer from Serena Williams’ S Collection and it had more of boyfriend fit. Think: not as fitted, still chic. The mom to be paired the oversized topper (designed by her bestie) with a classic white button down and her go-to Outland Denim black Harriet high-waisted jeans, as well as a classic pair of black suede chunky-heeled boots. All in all, the look was cool and modern, with Markle’s signature modern and feminine aesthetic fully on display.
But, Duchess Kate and Duchess Meghan have more than their love of blazers in common. Each of the royal wives love to wear emerald — and often! See how Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle wear green clothes here!
