Talk about a badass! When Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer told Millie Bobby Brown that she’d have to shave her head to become the Netflix series‘ telekinetic heroine, Eleven, she barely blinked an eye when it came time to lose her locks — and there’s video to prove it.
The 12-year-old British actress shared the 2-minute clip of the moment via Twitter on Sunday, August 21. She captioned the video (soundtracked to Beyoncé‘s “Pretty Hurts”), “Here it is!! The video of me getting my hair shaved for #StrangerThings. Enjoy! #buzzed.” In it, she can be seen with long brunette tresses. All of her hair is tied up into tiny ponytails — and then the hairstylist starts snipping them off one by one.
It’s only once every strand of hair has been chopped off that Brown finally reacts by dropping her shorn head into her hands, but even that lasts only a minute. After that, the stylist buzzes the tween’s hair even shorter. Once she’s done, Brown does her best scare-you-straight Eleven face for the camera, hugs the stylist and goes off on her merry way.
As Brown tells it, it was only after she nabbed the role of Eleven that the Duffers told her she’d have to go short. “So I’m standing in the room with them, and Ross Duffer comes over to me and is just like, ‘Bzzzzzzzz’ on my head, and I’m like, ‘What’s that mean?'” she recounted to IndieWire in July. “And Ross said, ‘Well, you’ve got to shave your head!'”

While the pint-sized actress was accepting, her mother was anything but. “My mum’s reaction was like, ‘Oh my God, nooooo!’ [laughs] ‘I don’t want you to do it! Please don’t do it!’ And me and my dad were like, ‘Mum, it’s OK! It’s just my head!'”

While she did confess that she had a slight freak-out moment after seeing the haircut, the brothers put her at ease by explaining their fierce inspiration. “They told me, ‘I want you to have the mind-frame of Charlize Theron in Mad Max.” And we did this sort of split-screen of her and me, and the resemblance was amazing! I thought, ‘Wow, that’s such an amazing way to put it, you know?’ It was the best decision I’ve ever, ever made.”
