The multi-talented diva was born in 1946 in Los Angeles, Calif. Originally known as one half of the Sonny & Cher duo, she has since established herself as a solo artist and actress.

The pop culture icon - who is the only female recording artist to have Top 10 hits in every decade of her career - is best known for her hits including "Believe" and "Bang Bang." She has made a splash in the film industry and her role in 1990's Mermaids popularized her songs "Baby I'm Yours" and "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)." She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in 1987's Moonstruck.

Cher -- who helped to popularize the trademark bell-bottom hippie look -- married Sonny Bono in 1964. They had a child, Chastity Bono, in 1969. In June 2009, Cher voiced her support for Chastity when she announced she would be undergoing a sex change. After their divorce in 1975, Cher married Gregg Allman and had a son, Elijah Blue, in 1976 although the two split shortly after.

In addition to her marriages, she has been linked to a number of celebrities including legend Elvis Presley and Tom Cruise. Cher will be hitting the silver screen again, starring in the upcoming film Burlesque opposite Christina Aguilera, which begins filming in late 2009.
