Maksim Chmerkovskiy Talks Falling Out With DWTS Partner Kirstie Alley, Remains Coy on Jennifer Lopez Dating Rumors
No more tango for these two! Maksim Chmerkovskiy revealed Tuesday, July 29, on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live that he and his former Dancing With the Stars partner Kirstie Alley are no longer on speaking terms.
"Did you get along with her well?" Cohen asked Chmerkovskiy after a fan inquired about whether Alley tried to convert him to Scientology. The hunky dancer responded: "Until recently… she stopped getting along with me. I think the world of her. I'm not judging people by their religion. I'm Jewish. I don't really believe in science fiction, whatever."
He continued: "We had a great relationship. I thought we had a great relationship." (As fans may recall from season 12 of DWTS, Chmerkovskiy and Alley were paired together back in 2011. The partners' relationship progressed both rhythmically and physically; the two even shared a passionate impromptu smooch after delivering a quickstep routine on one March 2011 episode.)
Chmerkovskiy went on to explain how a mutual friend recently passed along a message from Alley as to why the two were no longer on speaking terms. "Now that I'm associating with other people, that [she said] she can't be associated with, I am no longer to be spoken with," he said.
Cohen quipped, "Leah Remini was on the show recently," prompting Chmerkovskiy to say: "I love people." (Alley famously called Remini a "bigot" while speaking with Howard Stern last December. Her harsh comment came after Remini left the Church of Scientology and spoke out against her former religion, of which Alley is a member. "I think that is the most repulsive thing a person can do, attack another person's faith," Alley added of Remini.)
Remini, meanwhile, is best friends with Jennifer Lopez, with whom Chmerkovskiy has been romantically linked recently. As previously reported by Us Weekly, Lopez and Chmerkovskiy were "super cute" at J.Lo's 45th birthday bash last Thursday, July 24.
Cohen, who was also at the party, commented to Chmerkovskiy in the Clubhouse: "I saw you at the birthday party the other night. Leah Remini said you're not together, but everybody keeps reporting that you're together."
Chmerkovskiy, smiling, responded: "Well, [Leah]'s the authority on everything J.Lo, so we should listen."
