Miranda Lambert Is Living Off of “Caffeine and Sad Songs” After Blake Shelton Split

Miranda Lambert is finding ways to nurse her broken heart. The Grammy winner, 31, took the stage in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday, July 28, and spoke to the crowd about how she’s been feeling in the days since news broke that she and Blake Shelton were ending their marriage.

Lambert joined fellow country stars and collaborators such as Natalie Hemby, RaeLynn, Jessi Alexander, Courtney Cole, and Clare Dunn at the music city’s famed 3rd and Lindsley Bar and Grill. The Texas native, whose four-year marriage to Shelton ended last week, took a seat on the stage at the venue in a sleeveless T-shirt and jeans, wearing her cropped blonde locks in loose waves.

With a guitar on her lap, Lambert addressed the crowd and nodded to the turmoil in her personal life. “Well, I’ve been living off of caffeine and sad songs lately,” she said with emotion in her voice. She then reached for a nearby mug and began to strum on the guitar, adding, “So, we’re gonna drink some caffeine and sing sad songs.”

Lambert then did just that, launching into a stunning performance of her 2011 song “Dear Diamond,” singing, “You cost more than he wanted to lose / And with this ring I said I do / I promised I’d never do what I’ve done / I’ve lied to someone.”

The “Kerosene” singer has been gradually returning to the stage and the recording studio in recent days. Following her split from Shelton, 39, Lambert has found an outlet in her music. According to USA Today, she said at the concert of her fellow performers, “It’s been a long time since I’ve played like this, but I get to be up here with some of my best pals I write with all the time. Actually, in the last two weeks, I’ve written with everybody up here.”

The star, who is scheduled to play shows throughout the fall, may be finding inspiration from the heartbreaking divorce for her next album. If she keeps to her previous recording pattern, Lambert could release a new record as early as next year. Her last project, Platinum, hit stores in June 2014.
