Ryan Reynolds Sings Ex-Fiancee Alanis Morissette’s ‘Ironic’ on Live TV: Watch!

Wait, this might actually be ironic. Ryan Reynolds randomly brought up his ex-fiancée, Alanis Morissette — without actually saying her name — during an appearance on the Today show on Wednesday, February 10. The impromptu moment came when Today cohost Matt Lauer asked Reynolds what kind of superhero powers he’d want in real life.

“I think I would love to be able to on-demand reenact any ’80s music video in slow motion,” Reynolds, 39, said.

Lauer laughed, but Reynolds wasn’t kidding! The hunky star belted out Chip Taylor’s “Angel of the Morning” before he was asked to switch to ’90s hits. After a little bit of Salt-N-Pepa’s “Shoop,” he switched to Morissette’s 1995 smash hit, “Ironic.”

“What else is ’90s?” he said, grinning. “‘And isn’t it ironic. Don’t you think?'”

Reynolds has a long history with the fellow Canadian, 41. The pair were together for five years — and were engaged for two — before they broke up in February 2007.

The exes have since moved on, and are now parents. Reynolds married Blake Lively in September 2012 and welcomed daughter James in late 2014. (He previously was married to Scarlett Johansson from 2008 to 2011.) Morissette is mom of son Ever, 5, with her husband, Mario Treadway.

Reynolds has rarely spoken about Morissette since their split. He has, however, been gushing about his baby girl a lot since she arrived. “[My] strong suit, I would say, is I always do the dirty work. I’m happy to do the dirty work. So does [Blake], but I love getting up in the middle of the night. I’m fine with that!” he told Lauer of fatherhood on Wednesday.

“Having a daughter was a dream come true,” he added. “I don’t have to prepare to be wrapped around my daughter’s finger. I have been wrapped around her little finger since the day she plopped out into this world.”
