Not holding back! Veteran star Sandra Bernhard appeared on Watch What Happens Live! on Wednesday, April 8, and dished to Andy Cohen about a bevy of big-name stars.
The Roseanne actress, 59, sounded off on many of her costars and contemporaries and was joined by Lorraine Bracco for the fun. Bernhard opened up about her one-time friend David Letterman and just why her prolific run as a regular guest on the Late Show dropped off.
"The phone is quiet," Bernhard told Cohen, when asked if she would be returning to the talk show before Letterman's final send-off. "The hotline has been quiet and I'm heartbroken. I don't think it's happening... You know, maybe if we put out the vibes tonight. Now, maybe if we do some sort of like, chant and a prayer circle. Maybe if my rabbi sends something up to HaShem."
Bernhard has appeared on Letterman dozens of times, but told Cohen she and the comedian, 67, are not as close as they once were. Asked by the host if she did something to offend Letterman, Bernhard said simply, "Apparently, yeah."
"Apparently I did but I don't know what it was," the actress continued. "Cause he said, he asked me last time I was on if I was trashing him and I said, 'I've never, why would I trash you, Dave?'"
One person she had no problem trashing on WWHL was Charlie Sheen, whom she called "hopeless," and Robert De Niro, whom she said is "hard to engage" and "in his own world most of the time."
On the flip side, Bernhard had nothing but nice things to say about her former friend Madonna. "She can never go wrong," the actress said of the pop star. "She surrounds herself with the most talented songwriters in the world, she puts her ink and dips her quill and writes her words and she’s got a beautiful album. She’s always the best."
