Huge hair, don't care!
Remember when Alison was dead to Us—like, literally dead? And there were a flurry of memorials in her honor in and around Rosewood High? The queen bee may be behind bars now, but just four years ago, back in 2011, she was staring out of a screen at the Rosewood High School Fashion Show—with her eyes scratched out. (Gulp!)
In season two, episode six's "Never Letting Go," the Liars—played by Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, and Troian Bellisario—all agreed to walk the runway at RHS's charity fashion show. Look at those babies' costumes! Would any of them agree to have their hair that teased again?
But even scarier than the amount of L'Oreal Elnett used, there was a tribute to Alison (Sasha Pieterse) at the end of the show. While her picture loomed large on the a screen behind her former friends, the background turned into digital flames, her eyes turned black, and the words "evil bitch" appeared on the screen, neatly written across her halo of blonde hair.
We have to admit, it's always a little shocking to hear such strong (but, let's admit it, all-too-fitting) language on an ABC Family show. That's why Us Weekly caught up with the series' executive producer, I. Marlene King, who dished on why she likes to keep the ladies' chatter real, if occasionally foul.
"I will give credit to the popular use of 'bitch and bitches' to the book author Sara Shepard. It was a prominent part of her writing, and I hooked into it right away when creating the show," King told Us. "The girls use the word out of frustration at times and anger at other times. It works for them."
King admitted that while there's no set shock-o-meter for the show, she does aim to "leave our audiences with dropped jaws whenever possible. The shocking ride is a large part of the fun, and our fans love surprises."
Too true! Check back next week for another throwback pic—and tune in to Pretty Little Liars Tuesdays on ABC Family at 8 p.m. EST.
