Jason Segel's 5 Year Engagement Disappoints at Box Office
Jason Segel may have won the heart of Michelle Williams in real life, but his latest movie failed to win over moviegoers.
Five Year Engagement, his romantic comedy costarring Emily Blunt, earned a disappointing $11.2 million in domestic box office receipts its first weekend out, landing it in fifth place overall.
It was an ensemble romantic comedy, Think Like a Man, that topped the chart for the second weekend in a row with a draw of $18 million; starring Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, Jerry Ferrara, Meagan Good, Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union and others, the hit (which cost just $12 million to make) has now earned over $60 million.
In second place was the weekend's other debut, the animated The Pirates! Band of Misfits, which garnered $11.4 million. Zac Efron's The Lucky One earned an additional $11.3 million its second weekend out. Still in the top five, huge blockbuster The Hunger Games grabbed $11.3 million more for its sixth weekend in theaters; the mega-hit has now earned $372.5 million in the U.S., which puts it ahead of the highest grossing Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow s Part 2.
