In the sci-fi romance, the actors play husband and wife Aurora and Jim Preston, who wake up too early because of a malfunction during a 120-year space voyage to a distant colony planet.
While the others hibernate, they try to make the best of the situation. But not even a hot date and sexy kiss can help them overcome the obstacles that they are about to face. They soon have to rely on each other to save the vessel from collapsing.
"I have to tell you something," Jim says in the sneak peek. "There's a reason why we woke up early."
Passengers is Pratt and Lawrence's first movie together. Back in April, the Magnificent Seven star revealed what it was like to film a sex scene with the Oscar winner, 26.
"Aside from doing a great job and telling a good story, I think your primary goal is to make the other person comfortable. She wanted to have some wine, so we did, and that was nice,” Pratt, 37, told Vanity Fair. "I had never met Jen prior to doing Passengers. Of course I knew of her, I knew her work. [But] we jumped right into basically working, so the first time we met was at her house doing a table read with the director, and so we really bonded over the script and the story."
For Lawrence, 26, getting intimate with Pratt was a bit "bizarre" at first. "It was going to be my first time kissing a married man, and guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach. And I knew it was my job, but I couldn’t tell my stomach that," she explained to The Hollywood Reporter last November. (Pratt has been married to Anna Faris since 2009, and they share son Jack, 3.) "You want to do it real, you want everything to be real, but then … That was the most vulnerable I’ve ever been."
Passengers also stars Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne and Jamie Soricelli. It hits theaters on December 21.
