Jeopardy’s “What Women Want” Category Slammed as Sexist

Jeopardy has been slammed as sexist for using outdated gender stereotypes in its "What Women Want" category

We'll take "Stereotypes" for $200, Alex! Jeopardy! viewers are up in arms this week over a category featured on the game show's Monday, Sept. 29 episode. The topic in question — What Women Want — has been slammed as sexist by bloggers, Twitter users, and TV stars including Rosie O'Donnell and Sophia Bush.

The controversial category featured such clues as "Some help around the house; would it kill you to get out the Bissell bagless canister one of these every once in a while?" which led to the answer, "What is a vacuum cleaner?" Other things women supposedly want, according to the famed trivia program: a pair of good-fitting Levi's, Pilates, crossword puzzles, and Sleepytime tea.

Twitter users took the show to task for its outdated gender stereotypes, slamming the category as sexist and offering opinions on what women really want. Chicago P.D. actress Bush, for one, tweeted: 

She also retweeted several other replies, including @MissAndreaDavis' "#whatwomenwant What is equal pay? What is the right to make my own health decisions? What is [to be] treated like a human?"

The category was a hot topic on talk shows, too. The Today show featured it in a segment on Wednesday, Oct. 1, prompting Natalie Morales to say, "I can't believe that. How did that get past everybody in the room who thought that was a good idea?" 

The View co-host O'Donnell weighed in, too.
