Chmerkovskiy, 36, was a dance pro on 14 seasons of the long-running ABC competition series, making his debut on season 2 with Tia Carrere, in 2006. (They landed in sixth place.) He most recently competed during season 18, in 2014, winning the Mirrorball Trophy with Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis.

His younger brother, Val Chmerkovskiy, will also be in the mix this season. Maks' fiancée, Peta Murgatroyd, is pregnant with their son and will sit out season 23. Maks and Murgatroyd got engaged in December 2015, after dating off and on for three years, and she won season 22 with Nyle DiMarco in May.

Maks was a guest judge for one episode last season, and he joined Val this summer for their 45-city dance tour, Maks & Val Live on Tour: Our Way.

ABC announced eight pros on August 23 who will be hitting the dance floor this season: Val, Witney Carson, Sharna Burgess, Artem Chigvintsev, Lindsay Arnold, Allison Holker, Sasha Farber and Gleb Savchenko.

Us previously reported that Amber Rose and embattled swimmer Ryan Lochte will both compete on season 23. The full list of participants will be announced on Good Morning America Tuesday, August 30. A source told Us exclusively that producers also hope to land gymnastics hero Simone Biles.
