‘Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars’ Recap: Jade Roper Fails Her Lie-Detector Test, Tanner Tolbert Is ‘Done With Her’

The truth will set you free — or ruin your marriage. One or the other. On the Friday, December 9, episode of Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, the couples found themselves facing the intimidating (and sometimes downright terrifying) lie-detector test. It’s probably not surprising that some fared better than others.

Amber Refuses to Take the Test

Judge Lynn Toler was on hand to let people know what their questions would be in advance of being hooked up to the truth-telling machines. Amber and Jim Marchese both had to reveal whether they’d cheated on each other. Upon finding out that this was their question, Amber promptly freaked out. She paced around the house arguing they were “the perfect couple” and that the experts were “trying to sabotage” them. “I tell the truth all the time,” she reasoned to the camera. “I don’t lie about anything.” Yeah, sure.

It hardly mattered, however, because Amber came up with a strategy and simply refused to take the test. Though the experts all assured her that there was no reasonable health issue preventing her from being able to strap to the machine, the Real Housewives of New Jersey alum said she wasn’t comfortable with it, and since no one could make her, that was that. (Keke Wyatt did get a hall pass on the lie detector due to the fact that she might be pregnant, and Storm got one because of his ongoing health issues.)

Jim, on the other hand, did take the test. Though Amber was “pissed” that he had caved and completed it, she was happy to hear that when he said he had never stepped outside their marriage, he was telling the truth. That wasn’t the end of their drama, though.

In a conversation off to the side, Amber admitted to Jim, “There is something else, and I will tell you when we get home.” She said she didn’t want to tell him while they were there because “they hear everything.”

Jade and Tanner’s Trust Issues Flare Up

Toler told Tanner Tolbert that his question would be whether he had ever seriously considered leaving Jade Roper. Meanwhile, her question would be whether she had engaged in any contact with any of her exes since she and Tanner had gotten married that he did not know about. Hooked up to the lie detector, Tanner said he had never considered leaving his wife, and the results showed that he was telling the truth. Jade said she had not been in touch with any exes since she and Tanner had tied the knot — and the test showed that she was lying. (Oops.)

Tanner took that blow pretty hard. “Now I have to decide whether I’m going to trust my gut or trust what the test said,” he told the camera. He later asked Jade if there was anything she wanted to tell him, and she said no, but she did realize he was not pleased. As he stormed off to their bedroom, she trailed behind him, saying, “I’m sorry, baby. I don’t know what to say.”

Tanner broke down, crying, and pointed out, “I feel like I’ve had to go through a lot since we got married.” He then added that he felt she was “hiding” something. At that point, Dr. Ish and Dr. V came into the bedroom and recommended Jade and Tanner take a step back from each other for a bit to cool down.

Jade then confessed to Margeaux that some of her exes had “reached out” to her, and she “hid it” from Tanner. “I felt bad. I deleted it,” she explained.

The Couples Hit the Town … as Singles

For the last night of Boot Camp, the guys and girls split up to hit the town as singles. They each took their own party bus and headed to separate clubs. Everyone really let loose except for Michael Ford, who was clearly terrified of facing Keke’s wrath if he misbehaved, and Jade, who was moping about her lie-detector results. Interestingly, Keke — who didn’t take the test due to a suspected pregnancy — downed more alcohol than just about anyone, which seemed like a bad idea if she thought she actually might be knocked up.

Amber also continued her tirade about not taking the lie detector test. “Shut up, Amber,” Jade said, rolling her eyes at the camera.

“We all know you’re guilty. Just shut up already,” Karen Gravano added to Amber.

The guys arrived home before the girls, and Tanner declared that Jade “was on thin ice.” He promised that “if she lied,” he was “done with her.”
