To be a fraud, or not to be a fraud? That is the question posed in this convoluted period drama, which asserts William Shakespeare didn't pen his famed works. The true author: the Earl of Oxford (Rhys Ifans), but he must mask his identity for political reasons. Instead, Shakespeare, a vain actor, takes the credit and glory. Intriguing scandal aside, the film falters with confusing Elizabethan-era time jumps and a historical character pileup. Thou might need Cliffs Notes!
