It’s JT take two: Like Justin Timberlake before him, Jesse McCartney, 21, is a former child star (he was a regular on Summerland) who’s ready to prove he’s all man — and an R&B–flavored hitmaker. His third studio CD bursts with fiery hooks, from the hot single “Leavin’” and the seductive “How Do You Sleep?” to the mature “Told You So.” It’s a dazzling step in a new direction. (Hollywood)

Talk about Lost in Translation! In 2006, Scarlett Johansson revealed she'd make a CD covering the tunes of experimental folk singer Tom Waits. Sadly, the newly engaged actress' dreadful singing has neither her onscreen charisma nor Waits' soulful storytelling — plus, her words often get buried under overwrought production. Thus, classics such as "Falling Down" (her first single) and "I Don't Want to Grow Up" dissolve into mutated mush, and the one original tune, "Song for Jo," is beyond bland. Scarlett, stick with the big screen! (Atco)
