Looks like the party's over up in here for DMX. The 42-year-old rapper (real name: Earl Simmons) was arrested early on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 13, for allegedly driving without a license, a local Fox station reports.
According to authorities, DMX was taken into custody and booked into the Spartanburg County jail in South Carolina at around 2 a.m. Four hours later, he appeared before a judge, paid a fine, and was released into the world. But the damage had already been done. (Adding insult to injury? The rapper's 5-month-old daughter was in the car when he was arrested.)
"They watched me at the gas station and get in the car," DMX recounted to the local Fox station after leaving jail. "They followed me around the corner, pulled me over, put the cuffs on me, and brought me here. I paid the money, when I could have just paid the money right there on the spot. Basically it was just five hours wasted for nothing. I don't have a court date or a court appearance."
This is not the musician's first brush with the law. He previously faced several other charges of driving without a license and in 2011 served a seven-month prison sentence in Arizona for violating his probation.
