Queen Bey knows what she wants…and she wants it done right. The day after her 33rd birthday, Beyonce gave her fans a glimpse of her MTV Video Music Awards rehearsals in a behind-the-scenes video posted to her Facebook page on Friday, Sept. 5. The “Flawless” singer’s epic Video Vanguard performance went off without a hitch, but it took some time to get everything perfect.
Beyonce stayed focused while practicing choreography with her dancers at an off-site studio, but ran into trouble once she headed to The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The problem? The stage wasn’t anywhere close to being finished!
“It’s unbelievable,” an aggravated Beyonce said of the production mishap. “I’m trying to really compose myself. I can’t believe we only did [a run-through] one time.”
The “Drunk in Love” singer then aired her grievances during rehearsal. “It was really bad, as far as the stage,” she added. Despite the hiccup, one crew member noted that everyone was ready to bring their A-game. “It has to be flawless,” the female said. “No pun intended.”
Already under tight deadline, the entertainer decided last-minute that she wanted some dancers to be painted white for the 15-minute set. Following orders, her crew (some dressed in Bey’s “Surfboard” sweatshirts!) scrambled to make it happen.
The hard work and dedication paid off. Beyonce teared up on stage as she accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award from husband Jay Z and got a stamp of approval from the couple’s adorable 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.
“Everybody say good job!” the little tyke said to her famous mom as Jay Z carried her after the performance. The couple — who’ve recently hit a bumpy road in their marriage — both replied with a resounding “Aww!” Afterward, Beyonce changed out of her show clothes to celebrate backstage with the rapper and her entourage.
