What will Freddie say!? Sarah Michelle Gellar has revealed that what is perhaps her most famous on-screen kiss is in fact her favorite! The Crazy Ones alum admitted in a radio interview with Australia’s KIIS-FM that it’s hard to beat her girl-on-girl moment with Selma Blair in the 1999 classic Cruel Intentions.
“That’s easy!” she exclaimed to hosts Kyle and Jackie O on Thursday, Oct. 23, confirming that Blair’s smooch was the best. Gellar, 37, also noted that the former costars have kept in touch over the years, and “fun, good girl” Blair is always “up for a good time.”
Gellar played conniving Kathryn Merteuil in the dark prep school drama; Kathryn toys with naive and idiotic Cecile Caldwell (Blair), and teaches her how to kiss. “Now, close your eyes and wet your lips,” Kathryn commands in the famous scene. “Are you for real?” Cecile responds. The exaggerated 15-second makeout session became the most popular scene in the entire movie, securing their win for Best Kiss at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards.
“My mother’s going to be so proud right now,” Gellar said in the pair’s acceptance speech, with future-hubby Freddie Prinze Jr. in the audience. “I just want to thank Selma for my most rewarding on-screen kiss ever.” Blair added: “I guess I should just thank Sarah for all those hours of practice.”
Cruel Intentions also starred Ryan Phillippe (Sebastian Valmont), Reese Witherspoon (Annette Hargrove), Joshua Jackson (Blaine Tuttle), and Sean Patrick Thomas (Ronald Clifford). Cue Counting Crows’ “Colorblind”!
Gellar’s other most memorable on-screen kisses from over the years have been with real-life love Prinze Jr. (Scooby-Doo), David Boreanaz (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Phillippe (I Know What You Did Last Summer).
